Alright, since my blog topics have been completely varied lately, and since I have a lot to discuss in the weeks to follow, I figured I'd do a "status update" entry... Something I haven't done in months (definately not since my time at JoeUser). So, on a positive side, my time at JoeUser has provided me with two new jobs (or attempts at a job): 1) FileFront has just hired me as a reviewer for their upcoming game-review section (which is a direct result of the reviews I started writing after I...

My site, Polycat.net , has been without a focus for a long time now, as my pathetic excuse for a blog has been the sole purpose it has been serving since... well, it's existence. The time for change is now. In the coming week(s), I will be working on a new system to support the new focus on short stories. Once the system is in place, I will be writing a new short story every week, and releasing it on the site (I will also update this blog, on JoeUser, with news of the release) every Monda...

As a quick note, this entry is actually even more devoid of content than usual. It was more of a thing to help me relax for a while than actually be an interesting read. All apologies in advance.I had reserved a good portion of tonight due to the idea that I had an exam tomorrow (Thursday… So I guess that's today, now). After I checked out the semester calendar for the class, though, I found that I was about a week off in my estimates. Turns out the thing isn't until next Thursday. So, here I ...

Word on the street is that it's Valentine's Day, and being that I'm just such a festive person, I'm already wearing a red t-shirt with a white long-sleeve shirt because today is the day of love, romance, infatuation, eating chocolate, and doing lovey-dovey things for the person you love the mostest in the world. So, in the spirit of the holiday, I'll be giving little Hobbes an abundance of Pounce throughout the course of the day -- that's pretty much the extent of my Valentine's Day-related ex...

At the moment, all I can really say is that I'm really quite glad that the list is finally done. I've gotten some really awesome feedback and comments from a number of people, and for the record, if you'd like to reproduce the list on whatever site you may currently be running, knock yourself out. As I've said to others, the only thing that may anger me is if you replaced my name on the articles with " Derek Smart " who is, pretty much, the black sheep son of Mephistopheles. Word on the street...

Okay, at this point in time I've resolved to finish up that damn Top Ten list on Thursday and Friday night later this week. I simply don't have the time to do it any of the other nights this week, and currently I just don't have the desire to do it. Though, you do have my promise, barring any sort of illness which prevents me from standing, or simply a better way to spend my time, that list will have its penultimate posted Thursday night/Friday morning and the finale will be posted on Friday nig...

Sometimes, late at night, I feel this urge to, say, write an entry of some sorts for a site somewhere. Tonight, that happens to be the case. I can't say, specifically, what created this unique feeling in me... But I'm guessing it has something to do with chips and salsa and beer... Yeah, that sounds about right. I don't really have anything to really write about, to be honest. Though let's not kid ourselves here: it's not like I ever do . The Internet is truly a wonderful place. It is a lo...

So, at this point in time I only have roughly two weeks before I can head home and begin my summer vacation. And a week after that I come back to school -- so, yeah, awesome and such. Though, honestly, as much as I don't really want to do it, school during the summer is actually kind of fun. It's a lot more "relaxed" than a normal school year and, at least in my experience, the people that stay for summer tend to be a different variety of student. You know -- the insane, masochistic variety of...

It's some sort of given that if you have a week of little sleep, you're going to finish the big project or two or three that you've been working on and then you're going to wake up sick. I mean, sure, you might have been feeling a bit sick before you wake up -- say: just enough to make working on the project as much fun as licking sandpaper -- but it's really going to hit you that moment you think: "Hey, now I can relax!" This isn't exactly a theory or law or anything fancy of the sort, but… Yea...

I do very much apologize for going almost five days without so much as the smallest update to this, my Beloved Internet Paradise. That said, now is not going to be that update. I'm currently working on the second full draft of the second chapter of Paradise -- everyone's favorite dystopian, post-nuclear, romantic, darkly comedic, dramatic psychological thriller of a book. Once this thing is done, along with a couple other requirements for the week, you can expect a nice little rambling ...

So, I figured I'd write one final entry before finals kick into high gear - aw crap, who I am kidding, it's not like I'm a real student. Good joke though. For me, finals are actually kind of neat. I get to do the same thing I've done for the rest of the year except I get the gratification of being "done" with a class the second I turn in the final paper or exam. Being the silly little English major that I am, I get the joy of only having one of my three English classes require a final exam,...

For whatever reason, tonight just wasn't an Oblivion night for me. I got back from a fairly funtabulous dinner at Chili's (it's the new golf course -- Small Businessman Magazine) where I got charged eight bucks for a Heinekin. I'm not normally one to complain about prices, but something just seems… off in this particular instance. Oh well, still a damn good meal with a bunch of friends. Anyone who watches The Shield -- and by that I mean anyone currently in possession of a soul -- s...

I said in an earlier post that I would write an entry later on and, for what may be the first time, I'm actually following up on that. I'm not the kind of person who can lie in a bed and fall asleep almost instantaneously. I'm more the kind of person who, throughout middle and high school, often went to bed and started aimlessly at my ceiling for hours thinking about completely inane and useless things. It started getting a bit better over time (and, by that, I mean I became better adapted ...

So. I'm twenty-one now. All old and stuff. Feels pretty much the same as always, actually. The cool part, though, is that now I can buy alcohol and drink scotch late at night while working away at a typewriter and throwing a tennis ball against the wall. i'm outlining a new writing project ... Now a little story; block-quoted for formatting goodness. I originally had this as part of the general entry, but it ended up being one excessively long paragraph. Hence the block quotes of aweso...

There are various aspects of my personality which are decidedly ruled by what is conventionally considered to be the right-side of the brain -- the side that handles the warm, fuzzy feelings and such. I have an incredibly vivid and vibrant imagination that is constantly at work no matter what I may be doing and what I may be focusing on. Anyone who knows me has said something along the lines of "nothing can ever be realistically as fun for Trent as he imagines it to be." This may seem like a sad...
