Trent Polack's site for cats, games, game development, and undeniably powerful sociological insight all with a healthy dose of narcissism.
An E-Mail That Makes Me Feel All Warm and Fuzzy
Published on March 21, 2004 By mittens In Misc
Just got this e-mail forwarded to me by a friend:

This message goes out to Trent Polack, the author of "3d terrain programming", i could not seem to find a way to contact him, but i felt i had to speak...

I am currently a high school student, i am the webmaster for my schools award winning website (***********.org), and lead programmer for our robotics team. Im highly involved with programming, and quite interested in game design. Ive been blasted so many times by the crued "o, your just another high school computer junkie", im sick of the stereostpye of people thinking just because of our education level that we are not equally or more capable of accomplishing great feats of our elders. I was in a local book store, looking for a new programming book to keep me content, and ran across Trents programming book, at first i was interested because i am writing a 3d engine, and still cant seem to perfect my terrain. I got home and began flipping through the pages, i just decided to read the "about the author" page. After reading this, and discovering that Trent was almost exactly like me, including guitar, music, programming, the works, i was glad to think i was about to embark into a book with someone on my level. Sincerely, ********** **********

This is the kind of e-mail that reminds me why I help people out with programming in the first place. After all the people that you help, then they just pseudo-digi-crucify you, it's people like this that remind you why you go out of your way to help other people learn.
